Retrogrades, explained simply
A retrograde is when a planet seems to move backwards across the sky as Earth passes it or it passes Earth. Nothing reverses in space, but astrologers have read these stretches as times to review, rethink and slow down for thousands of years. The dates above are worked out live from the real positions of the planets.
Is Mercury retrograde right now?
The live panel at the top of this page answers that for today. In 2026, Mercury and Venus are retrograde together until November 13, 2026, which happens on only about 1 day in 77.
How often is Mercury retrograde?
Usually three times a year, sometimes four, for about three weeks each time. It is the most frequent retrograde, which is why you hear about it most.
How often is Venus retrograde?
About every 18 months, for roughly six weeks. Astrology links Venus to love, beauty and money, so a Venus retrograde is read as a time to revisit what and whom you value.
How often is Mars retrograde?
About every two years, for roughly two to two and a half months. Mars is linked to drive and action, so its retrograde is read as a time to rethink plans before pushing ahead.
What should I do during Mercury retrograde?
Traditional advice is to double-check messages, plans and travel, back up your files, read the fine print and give misunderstandings extra patience. It is a good time to finish, review and reconnect rather than to rush something new.
Does a retrograde affect everyone the same way?
No. Astrology reads a retrograde through your own chart: the area of life it passes through for you, and whether it touches your own planets. Add your birthday above to see where it lands for you.
